Trail runs just outside plot. Across the trail are old fields with red cedar and trees planted in tubes.;Rolling karst topography on limestone lithology. There are a couple of holes in the plot that may be natural sinkholes or created or modified by human activity. There is no other drainage out of plot. Area has a long history of human occupation and was probably cleared for agriculture over 100 years ago. Present vegetation is a successional forest dominated by tall tulip trees with some hackberry, ash, and sycamore scattered in stand. Herb layer is diverse, with rich - site indicators. Herb cover reduced to 10% on July revisit.
